DIMAPUR, MAY 7 (MExN): A revolution in the Education System is being foreseen in Nagaland, if the Education Grid Gateway System (EGGS), with its database of recorded lectures, Learning Management System (LMS), which has recently been installed at Nagaland University Dimapur, is successfully implemented. Through the new and innovative e-learning system, developed by the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K), the Vice Chancellor of NU, Professor Kannan hopes that every resident of Nagaland who desires to study and meets the prerequisites, is provided the necessary facilities and opportunities to study, NU said.  “A student from Mon need not come to Kohima to pursue his studies, but can stay in his home and study while also helping out his family,” stated the VC.
The VC envisions that through this new education grid, education will be able to reach the villages and to achieve this, he said that the University will build an e-learning network that covers all the villages of Nagaland. If all goes well, the new system might just be the tool that will equip Nagas against its late entrance into the madly competitive 21st century.
Speaking at the Valedictory function as chief guest, Minister of Higher Secondary Education, Dr. Shürhozelie opined that every teacher has to be trained in this new methodology to finally enable and empower both the teacher and the taught. The minister said that it is an attempt to provide quality education to all, independent of geographical difficulties, adding that he saw the concept having much relevance to a state like Nagaland.
Dr. Shürhozelie said that the workshop would also benefit the youth of the state in getting quality education within Nagaland itself rather than going out and draining much of our limited resources. “I see this workshop as a beginning to enable, educate and empower the youths of Nagaland” he said. The function was also addressed by Prof. K Srivathsan, Director of IIITM, Kerala, who gave the observations and comments on the workshop conducted. The 40 teachers from different colleges who had attended the workshop were given certificates while vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr. Kiyasetuo, Director of College Development Council, Nagaland University.
