The country's first education grid link between two farthest states has gone on stream with the Thiruvananthapuram-based Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala (IIITM-K) and the Nagaland University joining hands in this regard. The Nagaland-Kerala Education grid link will bring together the two institutions in their efforts at cooperation in technology-enhanced education, joint academic programmes and toward providing inclusive education to all the residents of Nagaland.

Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar inaugurated the country's longest broadband terrestrial education grid connecting the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (IIITM-Kerala) and Nagaland University on July 12th,Saturday at technopark Campus.

The School of Engineering and Technology of Nagaland University has successfully installed and commissioned an Education Grid Gateway Systems (EGGS) developed by the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala(IIITM-K).

A revolution in the Education System is being foreseen in Nagaland, if the Education Grid Gateway System (EGGS), with its database of recorded lectures, Learning Management System (LMS), which has recently been installed at Nagaland University Dimapur, is successfully implemented.

The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) aimed at enhancing the quality of engineering education in the country by developing curriculum-based video and web courses is set to enter its second phase.The Kerala Education Grid devised by IIITMK has proposed help align the content with the requirements of the State’s engineering institutions.IIITMK is also planning a few courses aimed at increasing the proficiency of teachers. The seven IITs and IISc are currently functioning as resource institutions of NPTEL.

THE Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) has entered into an agreement with Sun Microsystems for setting up an advanced information system laboratory (AISL) that would support its Education Grid (EduGrid) programme.

In May, 2000, Kerala Government launched the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala (IIITM-K). In 2001 IIITM-K proposed an education grid programme to provide quality education to all the students of higher education in the state.
