"Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten"

--- B.F Skinner

During the past decade, information systems and the underlying technology upon which they are based have changed dramatically. These changes have had and will continue to have a profound impact on larger society of which it is a part. Within the country we have experienced exactly the same shift from centralized to distributed computing/information systems. Although this change has been taking place over the past few decade with the infusion of personal computing and local area networks, the pace has dramatically accelerated with the growth of the Internet, new information technology resources, and the increasing computational power of personal computers, workstations, and large-scale servers. In the information-rich electronic environment, the issues regarding content and conduit are becoming increasingly inseparable.

The Introduction to Information Systems and Technology would take the student through the various layers of information Systems like the hardware layer to the Knowledge Management layer. The course will give students an awareness of the tremendous changes that information technology continues to bring to our lives, and how we can best prepare ourselves to understand and use them.
