The colleges form the nervous system of the Kerala
Education grid and they would be the facilitators of
this initiative. The colleges would provide the necessary
infrastructure and other connectivity options enabling
the students to make use of the KEG facilities optimally.
Colleges would encourage their academic community to
be the part of this initiative. The facilitation layer
of colleges would implemented through set up of Education
Grid Operations Centre (EGOC), Education Grid Resource
Centres (EGRCs) and Member colleges.
The colleges interested in being a part of the Kerala
Education Grid would contact the nearest Education Grid
Resource Centre [EGRC] and would sign an MOU with the
Resource Centre. The respective EGRC will be the focal
point for all the activities related to content development,
development of course materials and dissemination of
the content.
The main role of colleges will be listed as below:
- Individual colleges will be responsible for providing
the approved contents to the teachers and students.
- Colleges will provide necessary building space and
electricity supply for hosting the Education Grid
infrastructure.
- Colleges will nominate three responsible persons
viz: one senior faculty as coordinator, librarian
cum information analyst and System Administrator for
the Project. These persons will be responsible for
maintaining and delivering the Education Grid contents
to the students.
- Colleges will bear the expenses of hardware and
software infrastructure requirements and connectivity
necessary to maintain the services.
- Colleges will bear the expenses for the training
of teachers and administrators whenever such training
programs are organized by the EGRC or the EGOC.
- Colleges will have the facility to deliver their
own web-enabled courses. But such courses will be
limited for distribution to the respective colleges
only.
- College will sign a Memorandum of Understanding
with Kerala Education Grid through the respective
EGRCs.
