The workshop is intended to apprise the teachers and management of the engineering colleges in Kerala and Tamil Nadu on the ways by which they can use the authentic e-content being developed by all the IITs and IISc under the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning. The colleges stand much to gain from the e-content being made available under NPTEL ( http://nptel.iitm.ac.in/) with e-learning systems and instructional processes being developed under the Education Grid initiative of IIITM-K (http://www.edugrid.in/).

The workshop will provide the participating teachers insight into how e-content under NPTEL has been developed and organized, the subjects (over 240 courses) covered and how the same is being made available to the colleges. Further, the workshop will also expose how instructional processes and interaction services are to be managed under the Education Grid in ways that enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the colleges. It will bring out the central role that the college teachers have to play in the changed context of Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching (TELT).

This workshop will provide an overview of the technology, instructional and pedagogic aspects related to using the content. It intends to supplement this through an effective feedback process in which the faculty will participate in the next several months on the effective usage of content in their respective institutions. It also aims to bring together the faculty members of engineering colleges in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and make them conversant with the e-courseware developments and how to use them for quality instruction in the classroom.

The teachers will also be given some exposure to the kind of systems and educational processes that are needed in the colleges to benefit from NPTEL and other open content as well as open course-forums and portals such as the Computational Chemistry portal being set up by IIITM-K as part of the next generation tools for learning / research. Experts involved in content creation and portal development will help the teachers through practical sessions to communicate the concepts better to the students. Orientation on how the content and processes can be aligned with the affiliating university syllabi and examinations will also be given.
